A 2-man British production company, Devoid of Yesterday, produced the Hurricane video for an indie oriented band that goes by the name of Athlete. The video employs a combination of video and motion graphics to achieve the ‘indie look’.
The video was one of those short notice, tight deadline adrenaline-charged jobs that we all get dumped on with. In fact they had to get the job done in 8 days (Gasp). Nevertheless, Devoid of Yesterday rose to the challenge by using a cutout image effect to charge the video with visual excitement. The technique required they manually, frame by frame (A Ben Hur task), cut out all the video images by hand before they could assemble them back into the final cut…The whole project truly fits the label of Motion Graphics.
What’s even more remarkable about the project is that the two creators at Devoid of Yesterday, Chris Hewitt and Rob Chiu, work together in two separate British cities via the internet.
See the Hurricane video on YouTube and be sure to pay a visit to the Devoid of Yesterday website as well. Their “Things Fall Apart” video is simply enigmatic.
