The folks over at Universal finally cleaned up the first season of Saturday Night Live – and they say they couldn’t have done it without their Mac-based suite of tools. Using Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, Shake and Final Touch, all SAN-based, they were able to reformat the shows, remove commercial breaks, clean up transitions, clean up video or audio dropouts and color correct. Fortunately, it seems that all their shows were already stored in HD 10-bit uncompressed so they were able to dive right into the restoration without the time-consuming process of digitizing from tape.
The production team was given only 6 weeks to get the job done & out to market, so they relied heavily on Mac’s integrated media management to keep things moving smoothly. With successes like this, I think we’ll see more studios moving to a Macintosh editing suite.
