Study: Primary Role of the Internet Shifting from Communications to Content

ArsTechnica has a quick overview of the Online Publishers Association and Nielsen/NetRatings Internet Activity Index Study (IAI)  and the results are right on target. As we’ve been telling our clients for years, content is now king - and not just any content. More and more surfers are spending more and more of their time reading rather than communicating. As we work with companies to ensure they do an effective job of speaking to their respective target markets we are constantly pushing for more topical/educational/entertaining content and less product based content. Readers don’t visit a website for YOUR content, they visit a website for THEIR content! Seeing as content now commands 47 percent of Internet users’ time, the importance of a good content creation plan is even more paramount.
